White House, Lawmakers To Seek New Bailout Deal

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) - Congressional leaders, President Bush and the two rivals to succeed him rummaged through ideas new and old Tuesday, desperately seeking to change a dozen House members’ votes and pass a multibillion-dollar economic rescue plan. At the top of
the list: Raise confidence in the banking system by increasing the
government’s insurance.

In addition, there was talk of making it easier for financial institutions to hold questionable long-term assets, an idea embraced by some of the House Republicans who slapped down the bailout bill and sent stocks tumbling on Monday.

One Of Two Stolen Dogs Recovered

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Last Monday, 27 NEWSFIRST told you how Lynn Caudill returned home to find her front door kicked in, and her two Yorkie puppies, Pebbles and Misty, stolen from her home on North Limestone in Lexington.

Later that week, after our story aired and Caudill canvassed the neighborhood with fliers, a man came knocking on the door saying he knew where her dogs were.

Caudill says she would gladly pay a reward but would only do so when she had the dog in hand. He then returned with one of the dogs, Misty, and she gave him a reward.

He also said that if she gave him money up front he would bring the other dog back, she told him that she again, would only pay when the dog came home.

Caudill says he never came back, and now she’s pleading once again for the safe return of her dog.

Man Accused Of Stabbing Cats

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A judge has increased bond to $100,000 for a northern Kentucky man accused of breaking into a neighbor’s home
and stabbing two cats to death.

The bond for 30-year-old Russell Swigart of Highland Heights had been $5,000 since he was arrested Friday and taken to the Kenton County jail. The Kentucky Enquirer reported Tuesday that Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Brian Richmond didn’t say in open court why
he asked for the bond increase.

Police found the back door of a home forced open Thursday and two cats stabbed to death.

Police say Swigart still had a knife covered in cat hair and blood when he was arrested.

Swigart is charged with one count of felony burglary and two
misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.

Swigart’s attorney, public defender John Delany, asked for a preliminary hearing Tuesday to be postponed while he studies the
case.

Letterman said he felt like a patriot to let McCain off his commitment to deal with the economy. (Read the full post about ‘McCain Made Letterman Feel Like ‘Ugly Date’’…)
