Ky. Teacher Hall of Fame seeks nominees for 2009

If asked to name teachers who had strong, positive impacts on their lives, most people can immediately think of a few.

Now is the chance for Kentuckians to honor those educators.

The Gov. Louie B. Nunn Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame is accepting nominations through June 30 for the 2009 class of inductees.

To be eligible, nominees must have at least 19 years of teaching experience (of which at least 10 years must have been in a P-12 Kentucky school), be available to attend the induction ceremony (at a date to be determined) if they are alive, and have a completed nomination packet submitted.

The nomination packet must include a completed nomination form, up to five pages of supporting documentation (awards, newspaper clippings, student testimonials, etc.) showing the nominee’s qualifications, up to five letters of recommendation and a photo of the nominee.

Between three and six teachers will be selected for induction.

The hall of fame was established in 2000 with a financial gift from Nunn.

The hall is at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green because of the school’s 100-year history of providing teacher education.

The 2008 class of inductees was the first. It included Jan Kathryn Weaver Lanham of Bardstown, Patrice McCrary of Bowling Green and Shelia Ann Miller of Owensboro.

Winners receive a plaque, a financial gift, recognition in the hall of fame display in the WKU College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, and invitations to a public recognition ceremony, reception and various intellectual activities.
