Wanda Sykes Says She’s ‘Proud To Be Gay’
LAS VEGAS — Comedian Wanda Sykes said the passage of a same-sex marriage ban in California has led to her be more outspoken about being gay.
Before, Sykes said she never felt she had to make a big deal about her sexuality. She said her friends and family knew she was a lesbian, but otherwise she was just living her life, “not necessarily in the closet.”
But now she said it’s time to get in people’s faces.
Sykes, who is known for her blunt style, said the passage of California’s Proposition 8 made her feel like she was “attacked.”
Those comments came at a surprise appearance Sykes made at a gay rights rally in Las Vegas, where she’s performing this weekend.
